Extra Loft on your Futon Mattress

August 26, 2008 Futon 101, Futon Mattress — aaron

There are a few futon mattresses available on Futons Etc. that are more than ten inches. These futon mattresses will not fit a standard futon cover and will require what is called in the industry as extra loft.

Loft is the measurement from the bottom seam to top seam on the side of a standard mattress, futon mattress, or futon cover. Standard loft is six inches tall, and fits futons that are 9 inches or less.

Extra loft is 7″ and is required for futon mattresses that are ten inches or thicker. Otherwise your futon cover will not completely zip up properly, and could rip your futon cover.

Not all futon cover manufacturers offer extra loft. Cotton Bell, SIS Covers, Lifestyle Covers are the only futon cover manufacturers that offer this extra loft.

As you shop around Futons Etc. for futon mattresses and futon covers, be sure that your match up the correct width of your futon mattress with the futon cover of your choice.
